Matthew Higby & Company Ltd are a Somerset based engineering firm, whose work is primarily based around the the conservation, restoration or replacement of church bells, together with their associated fittings and supporting frameworks. Having started as a sole trader in 1996,  Matthew Higby and his team have developed the business into one of the largest and most versatile bell hanging companies in the world.

As a company, we pride ourselves in offering the highest quality of design, materials and workmanship for any bell related project. Whether it's a single turret bell for a country church, or a majestic new ringing peal for a Cathedral, we combine the most up to date technology with age old craftsmanship to ensure our customers receive nothing but the best.

We supply new or second hand bells and specialize in bell tuning. Whilst the majority of our work involves peals of bells hung for English style change ringing, it also encompasses chimes, single bells, mini rings and training aids. Examples of our work can be found in over 20 countries throughout the world. No project is considered too large or too small.

Inspections, reports and estimates are free in the British Isles. We are pleased to carry out condition surveys or inspections elsewhere in the world, and only charge expenses. Our reports often include drawings and digital photographs, together with diagrams to explain every aspect of our work, especially for those not familiar with Church bells and their hangings. We offer a full consultation service on any bell related matter, and are happy to help with faculty or grant applications.

All of our work aligns with the Church of England’s guidelines for the conservation and repair of ancient bells and bell frames.

Visits to our Works.
We welcome touring parties to visit our works by prior arrangement. We invite our customers to visit our works to view their bells being worked upon. This can also be turned into a fund-raising event such as a Cheese & Wine Evening or a short service of blessing/dedication. In 2020 we installed our own small ringing peal of bells, hung within the works, on which bellringers are invited to demonstrate their skills! These bells are readily available for general outings and quarter/peal ringing. Donations from visiting ringers are donated to local and national charities (over £1400 donated by the end of 2022).
