About the Company
Matthew Higby and Company is the most versatile firm of Bell Engineers that you will find. It is a firm that has grown steadily since Matthew began hanging bells in the late 1980s. From designing, developing and producing mini rings in a double garage, the company now occupies a large, purpose designed engineering workshop in the Somerset countryside capable of handling the heavy engineering required for any type of bell engineering project.
Our workshop at Charmborough Farm.
We are proud of our depth of knowledge in hanging bells ranging from the size of a tea cup through to a 5 1/2 ton bourdon bell. Although the company continues to be the market leaders in the production of mini rings and other small peals, this has now become a sideline in comparison to our main work of church bell hanging.
A typical day in our workshop.
The company has a number of very experienced bell hangers, all of whom are also competent bellringers. All engineering and steel fabrication is undertaken in house with the exception of the casting and tuning of large bells. Our bell wheels are handmade by a specialist joiner, enabling bespoke craftsmanship for each individual project. We feel this is the most efficient way of providing our customers with first class quality at a competitive price.
Matthew Higby and Company can supply our own range of locally cast bells up to a weight of 2cwt. We have good working relationships with the two main UK Bellfoundries, enabling us to supply bells to suit any application for a bell hanging project.
Examples of our work can be found in over 20 countries throughout the world, predominantly here in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
Being a small company with low overheads, we can produce first class products and workmanship at competitive rates. We are happy to supply names and addresses of recent customers who will attest our quality of workmanship and project management.
